When do I need automatic iris lens?

Iris that is controlled by the signal level in the camera. Changes in light input level result in changes in signal amplitude which are in turn used to adjust the iris to compensate. Therefore, mostly outdoor application requires camera with auto iris lens to have suitably exposed picture.
