Motion detectors are relatively simple devices. There are many different varieties of motion detector out there, such as standard indoor motion detectors, waterproof outdoor motion detectors, and good old motion detector cameras. Motion detector cameras are rather nice, as you don't have to waste storage space (film or hard drive) recording everything that happens, and anytime you look at footage from a motion detector camera, there's always something happening, hence the motion that it detected.
